The Mind Body - Content Management Diet

Hey there friends and family! Let's rewind to a time about 16 years ago when my world was graced with the arrival of my first born daughter Rowan. Like any proud parent, I eagerly ventured into the realm of social media, hoping to share her every precious moment with loved ones near and far. Little did I know, but I suspected this journey would shape my digital footprint and challengeme in many ways.

Setting Boundaries:
Right from the start, I made a pact with myself: my online presence would be purposeful, not perilous. It was about creating a haven for meaningful connections, not drowning in the endless sea of digital noise. I set out to curate a space where joy and authenticity reigned supreme, steering clear of the chaotic currents of mindless scrolling. I decided then and there and explained to my closest five or ten that this would be a one-way street where I could share as many do but "not engage" the back and forth as I could not see that as sustainable or healthy for me.

Navigating the Content Avalanche:
Fast forward to the present day, and the digital landscape has exploded into an active volcano of content. It can be like a jungle out there, with clickbait lurking behind every corner and viral trends sweeping through like a digital monsoon. In the face of this relentless deluge, I knew I had to take control of my digital destiny now more than ever.
I remember a day when we waited for a show to be on, a certain day and time if you missed it you prayed for a re run.
Enter the concept of on-demand content consumption. Rather than being at the mercy of the algorithmic whims of social media platforms, I became the captain of my digital ship, charting my course through the vast expanse of online content. It was about quality over quantity, intention over impulse. If a topic interests us, seek it out, use a trusted source and consume in your time and pace.

The Paradox of Information:
Now, let me share with you a couple of tales that shed light on the importance of this mindful approach to content consumption. Peter Sage shared in a TED talk how when he was asked how you know what is going on in the world without engaging in media and news, he responded: "everything is happening" - If you are in the jungle in the dark, middle of the night and a flashlight is pointed down a snake devouring its prey is revealed, but if the light is pointed up above a hummingbird may be taking it's first flight, it's all happening at this moment, what is our flashlight pointing to?
And then there was the moment of reckoning during a recent leadership training session I facilitated. A participant called me out on my frequent/infrequent self-deprecating remarks about my age especially since monitoring self talk was one of my power tips. What I shared and clarified in my own realization is that I have come to adopt age as a positive identity, embracing aging not as a burden, but as a badge of honor – a testament to the wisdom and experience that comes with the passage of time so really far from self deprecating.

Embracing Growth and Wisdom:
As the years have rolled by, I've come to view aging not as a decline, but as a journey of growth and self-discovery. With each passing year, I've become more attuned to the rhythms of my own being, more discerning about the content I allow into my digital sphere. As the years arrive I see the flourishing of knowledge into wisdom. Quotes like Knowledge speaks, Wisdom listens now resonate with me.

Choosing Wise:
So, let's talk turkey – or rather, content. In a world where information is abundant and attention is scarce, it's crucial to be intentional about what we consume. It's about seeking out sources that align with our values, interests, and aspirations – whether it's thought-provoking articles, inspiring podcasts, or eye-opening documentaries.
But it's not just about what we consume – it's about how we consume it. In a culture of constant distraction, it's all too easy to fall into the trap of mindless scrolling. That's why I've made it a priority to set boundaries around my digital consumption, carving out dedicated time for meaningful engagement and using technology to enhance, not detract from, my daily life.

Conclusion:
So, as we navigate the digital jungle, let's do so with purpose and intention. Let's create digital oases where joy, connection, and authenticity thrive, and where every interaction leaves us feeling enriched and inspired. After all, in a world of endless distraction, it's the moments of mindful engagement that truly nourish the soul.
Here's to crafting our digital destinies, one intentional click at a time. Happy exploring!
